Usage
D-threo-(-)-2-Amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediol (Chloramphenicol base) is an intermediate for synthesizing Chloramphenicol, a broad spectrum antibiotic agent.Chloramphenicol baseis the parent 4-nitrophenylpropylamine formed by the hydrolysis of the dichloroacetamide of chloramphenicol. Chloramphenicol base per se does not work as an antibiotic, however, it plays an important role in the synthesis and antibacterial activities of chloramphenicol and other new generation antibiotics, represented by thiamphenicol and its experimental analogues, bromamphenicol and methamphenicol.
Attention
Currently there are 2 other kinds of analogous products available in the market. They are 2-Amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediol (CAS No. 119-62-0) and (1S,2S)-2-Amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)propane-1,3-diol. Please be advised that they are NOT for the production of Chloramphenicol. The chloramphenicol made from them are much cheaper because it is with much less or little antibiotic effectiveness. D-threo-(-)-2-Amino-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3-propanediol is the sole right impurity for producing chloramphenicol.
